“STOP AND SEE”
A versatile filmmaker with a penchant for bold visual storytelling, Kirsten Tan is a New York-based Singaporean filmmaker whose debut feature Pop Aye premiered as the Opening Night film of Sundance Film Festival 2017. The film went on to receive a Special Jury Prize for Screenwriting at Sundance, the Big Screen Award at Rotterdam and the Best International Film Award at Zurich Film Festival. To date, it has screened at over 50 film festivals and was theatrically-released worldwide. Pop Aye was invited to represent Singapore in the Foreign Film Category at the Oscars.
Prior to completing Pop Aye, she made a series of short films that have collectively received over ten international awards. Commercially, she has directed content for brands including Giorgio Armani, TEDTalks, Raffles Hotel (Singapore) and Credit-Suisse. Ella, a fashion film she directed for Giorgio Armani, received an AICP show honor in 2014 and has been included as a part of the archives of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in NYC.
Kirsten has been featured on CNN International’s flagship program, Ones to Watch, which is globally broadcast to “shine a spotlight on up-and-coming creative talents set to be the next big names in culture and the arts.” A Sundance Institute and Cinereach Film Fellow, she earned her MFA at NYU Graduate Film School where she received the prestigious Tisch School of the Arts Fellowship.
