Science fiction short film Whipping Boy, directed by STORIES creator client Michael Chance, has premiered on The Escapist as a finalist for New Regency’s “Prototype: The Search for the Next Great Filmmaker” online film competition.
Whipping Boy is set in a dystopian future, where a man who works as a human punching bag to relieve others of their stress gets caught up in a noirish mystery pertaining to a strange device that everyone’s after.

The film stars rising talent Tongayi Chirisa (Sleepy Hollow, American Horror Story, H+).
Other notable participants in Whipping Boy include special effects artist George Troester who competed on the SyFy Channel’s special effects competition show Face Off and became a fan favorite, as well as character designer Robert O. Simons (Jurassic World, Transformers: Age of Extinction, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Ender’s Game), and compositor Joshua Galbincea (Robocop, Elysium, Man of Steel).
Michael Chance is a visionary filmmaker based in Hollywood. He wrote, directed and produced Project Arbiter, which screened at San Diego Comic-Con 2013, receiving rave reviews from many of the world’s top science fiction and film publications, and landed him as a finalist in New Regency’s Prototype film competition for his film Whipping Boy. Chance recently directed Momentum for Robert O. Simons, Peggy Chung, and Mark Yang, whose work includes Pacific Rim, Ender’s Game, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and Avatar.
Chance recently directed branded entertainment series “Rimmel London Presents: Real Rockin’ Beauty with The Pierces”. He has received multiple Telly Awards for his film and commercial work, and has directed music videos, including “Sins” for Dreams of June.
